We have our favorite dermatologist that will be appearing regularly here on Ivy League Dr. Gunn, but until then, Mel is sharing her best tips for skincare!
When I’m teaching my makeup classes, starting at the young age of 10, I teach them to use Dove bar soap, Cerave is my top go-to, even now at 40.
The Magic Beauty washcloth is amazing with over 1,000 uses – use it am and pm! It can remove waterproof makeup and glue in one swipe. I just splash water on my skin and wipe.
Eye makeup removers: My 3 faves are Eminence Organics Herbal Eye Make-Up Remover, SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Makeup Remover, and Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover.
Tea tree wipes are a must – not to be the sole skincare cleaner but to use after a workout or sporting events – basically anything that makes your face get sweaty and gross.
After removing any makeup with a wipe, you should wash your skin with soap and water. The wipes leave an oily residue and they are not made for skincare, just for removal.
When it comes to my skincare concerns, a few of my major skincare concerns for my combination to oily skin are as follows:
- Dark Spots and Hyperpigmentation
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Acne-Prone // Combat breakouts
So all of the products that I use are to help combat not only my skincare concerns but also help prevent the concerns.
Accutane is one of my very favorites and I have loved it, but there are some dos and don’ts, so talk to your doctor.
Mood is a big factor in skincare! Make sure you keep stress and other negative moods at bay as much as possible!
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Coat your lips with Vaseline day and night and inside put it inside your nose.
Day Cream and SPF: When it comes to moisturizers lately, I have been using Cerave that can multi-task as SPF and my makeup primer. So for the daytime, I have been reaching for my trusted Cerave Ultra-Light Moisturizing Facial Lotion SPF 30. This stuff is amazing! Not only does it give you much-needed moisture thanks to the hyaluronic acid and ceramides in it but it also contains SPF 30 in it. I am a fan of moisturizers that contain an SPF and it’s perfect and glides into the skin effortlessly. I never leave home without it! SPF is the only thing that keeps us from AGING. If I am feeling I need some extra SPF since I am going to be outside I tend to grab my powder SPF or SuperGoop.
One of Ashley’s favorite skincare products comes from Trader Joe’s! It’s this fabulous face toner.
